The BIG renovation – Day 8

Today I am demolishing the kitchen. This kitchen dates from the ’70’s and is due for a total makeover, so I’m ripping out the entire kitchen: furniture, cabinets, appliances and the floor.

I have to do this today, as we will install a metal beam to break down a supporting wall. This will be done by a company who is specialized in placing those beams. I had to contact a stabilization engineer to calculate the mass of the beam. The beam was just delivered a few days ago and weights 600 LBS.

Anyway, back to demolition. As you can see, the kitchen is so horrible that the only solution to tear it apart and start from scratch.

The wall behind the cupboards is going to be taken down to make an open kitchen to the living room.

As I had to tear down everything, I also had to disconnect water and electricity in the kitchen. The new kitchen will not be ready before April 1st and thus for the next few weeks I’ll be eating TV dinners.

And voila, the kitchen is gone.

The only thing left is that I have to remove part of the floor as there are quite some lose pieces. Once I have hammered these out, I will put in a new floor with leveling cement.

More to come my friends.
