Maasdam running club presents the wooden shoe challenge; Running down the half marathon from Mount Wellington in Hobart, finish, go up and run it again
Hobart, Tasmania
Hobart is the capital and most populous city of the Australian island state of Tasmania. With a population of approximately 225,000, it is the second least populated Australian capital city. Founded in 1804 as a penal colony, Hobart is Australia’s second oldest capital city after Sydney, New South Wales.
A great area to run is Mount Wellington. Take a shuttle or a cab to the top; there is a very cool boardwalk that looks out over the bay. From the top you can run down over a very scenic road all the way down to the harbor. That is exactly half a marathon.
I organized a group of runners and arranged transportation to the top of the mountain. As I like challenges, they challenged me to run in orange painted wooden shoes. And so I did. I made it to the bottom of the mountain, exactly half a marathon. Back to the ship I saw the captain who told me that he also wanted to run….and so we took the transportation back up and ran down…..again and thus it was a full day of running two half marathons…on wooden shoes.
