Dear readers,
it has been a while since my last post. I have just been swamped with my home renovations over the past several months. I bought an old house from the 70’s and this place needed a total overhaul, and with overhaul I mean literally scrapping the entire place and start from scratch; new doors, new windows, new roof, new plumbing, new kitchen, new bathrooms, new toilets, new heating systems etc etc. I gave myself two years for this project. As I do most of the stuff alone (tiling, roofing, plumbing, actually most except electrical stuff).
In my previous vacation, i had some stuff done, as I can’t do it all by myself. Had all the windows and doors replaced and had the outside of the house insulated.
I took the old shutters and recuperated them by painting them black which looked better by the black window frame. The plan was to do a makeover in modern-country style.
Here’s what we did last vacation.

I removed the chimney, as I don’t want to have a real indoor fire place

half way:

as you can see, the chimney is gone. Now we need to close the roof by addind support beams and roof tiles

And the end result

Indoor fireplace: this was such a massive fire place that it took 3 days to break it down

Instead, I build a smaller version, for an electrical fireplace. It’s actually a book cabinet with a small bench, which looks much more updated:

We replaced all the doors and windows

and as you can see, there are big openings in the floor covered by wooden grids. In these openings, there are heating elements, like radiators. This used to be popular and considered modern back in the 70’s when the house was build. I hate those things; first of all because you lose a lot space as you can’t put anything on top, second, because the look ugly, third: they collect a lot of dust. In other words: OUT. Because I took them out, we needed to add new water pipes and put regular radiators against the walls.

As you can see, we added pipes for the new heating system and when these were installed, I took building rubbish to close the holes

And once those holes were filled, I poured an entire new concrete floor:

One of the toilets was the first project I started to overhaul this vacation.
Old tiles, everything so outdated that I decided to strip the toilet and start from scratch

The toilet completely stripped:

It took me a week, to rebuild but the result is great:

Much more to come over the next few days….stay tuned.
