Although running is a big word here. To reach Upper Dewey, it’s 90% hiking. The trail is just too steep to run.
The entrance to the trailhead is close to the ship – just follow the traintrack for 0.3 miles and you’ll see signs pointing towards lower and upper Dewey.
To reach lower Dewey is easy but once you’re passed the lower lake and head for upper Dewey, the pain starts….
It’s so steep that you really can’t run. This goes for both ways; uphill but also on the way down it’s hard to run as the trail is too steep and too slippery with too many big boulders etc.
But it’s worth every second. Once you’re getting close to the lake, the scenery changes completely; it’s like a fairy tale setting.

As you can see, the lake is still pretty much frozen – it will take another two months before all the snow and ice are melted.
