Québec City sits on the Saint Lawrence River in Canada’s mostly French-speaking Québec province.
Of all cities I ever ran in, Quebec is my favorite for a few reasons:
The old downtown area is like entering a fairy tale. It feels like time stood still for 300 or so years.
Look at the pretty buildings and architecture. If that doesn’t do it for to than you’re out of luck here.

Look at the below photo – see that big cruise ship on the right – that’s the one I work on…..

the other reason is that Quebec city has a fantastic hiking, running and biking patch following the St. Lawrence river.
you can run from the downtown area to the bridge and then turn around to run half a marathon, or, you can continue on the same path, go over the bridge, run via the other side till you see the ship, then turn around and run all the way back. Makes for a great 38 mile ultra-marathon.
Due to tidal restrictions, we came in at 04:00 am on several occasions. Great, as it gave me the opportunity to go out for a long run at 4:30 am and be back before 10:00.
During my 3 months contract I was able to run 8 half marathon distances, and two 60km or 37.5 mile runs
here are the stats from the runs
