Hopping from Belgium last week to Alaska this week…..
Today we are in Sitka, Alaska, and the weather is miraculously great.

The forecast called for rain all day but as soon as we docked, the sun came out and it stayed dry for most of the day. ‘Most’ of course means that I did get quite a bit of rain on my way back from a nice trail run, but ok, that was only the last stretch of 2 miles so no big deal.
I love Sitka because of the trails. Sitka has truly one of the most beautiful trails you can imagine. Well maintained trails with boardwalks leading you though the Alaskan muskegs.
Two trails that are really worth it are not too far from the ship so if you go for a run, you run to the trailheads. The first one is ‘Ben Grussendorf’

The second one is Starrigavan trail which is part of a larger cross trail.

As always in this part of the world, I have a canaster with bear spray in case I have a run in with a bear. I didn’t see bears today, however, looking at the fresh piles of poop, you can see the bears are active in the area here.
Looking at the amount of nuts in the pile of grap, these folks really like nuts

And another proof that the bears are awake and around

Anyway, the trails here are stunning:

The boardwalks leading you through the muskegs are super cool. Great way to run the trails.
