The BIG renovation day 4

hey friends,

No you haven’t missed the first 3 days….I skipped the first 3 days, as these days were just scheduled for planning; making phone calls to the companies who supply the doors, the windows, the tiles, the insulation etc.

The windows need to be done at the same time as the insulation so I had to get the two companies on the same page when it comes to the starting date.

So, skipping to day 4: preparing for the insulation of the outside of the house. This takes a lot of preparation, since A: everything needs to be removed from the outside walls; light fixtures, door bell, faucets, you name it and B: they need a 3.5 ft or 1 meter clearance around the house to build the scaffolding and this means that I need to remove all the trees etc. Now, most of the trees, the famous ball-shaped buxus trees, have been there for over 50 years and it is a waste to cut them and ditch them. Ultimately, I think they would look nice once the insulation is done and the windows are replaced. So I decided to spend a day to dig them out and plant them at the back of the garden, temporarily, till we can plant them back. Man, what a work

The front of the house where I needed to dig out all the trees

Temporarily plant them at the end of the garden

and voila, the trees are now removed

Next thing to do is to remove all the shutters. I will clean them and spray paint them in the same color as the windows which is going to be antraciet. Once the windows are placed, I will paint two shutters and see if I like it. That’s it for now friends, more to follow.
