If you ever visit Skagway for a full day, try to make it up to the Dewey lakes, lower and upper Dewey. The lower lake is pretty easy to hike and you can reach this small lake in about 30 minutes leaving from the ship to the actual lake. You have some stunning views. Now, once you’re done and you have good hiking shoes and a healthy portion of energy left, continue towards Upper Dewey. The trail between Lower and Upper is strenuous so be forewarned. Take your time, take breaks and drink water…I do this trail in 1hr 20 minutes (read: one way) but once up there you realize it was worth the sweat 🙂
Along the trail are some fantastic waterfalls and with a smartphone you can take some good pictures. Take this one for example, where the water looks like it’s moving. I take this with my iPhone with a few simple settings.

and finally you reach “Upper D”

Every step wort it!
