The Bermuda Half Marathon

on May 24, 2016 we were docked in Hamilton, Bermuda for three days.

It happened to be that the Appleby’s Half Marathon was on the 2nd day of our visit and what other option did we have to run

on the eastside of the US lies this beautiful island of Bermuda

Bermuda has about 65,000 residents and in May, the Half Marathon is organized and thus for us a great opportunity to run. I’ve done several runs in Bermuda, mostly 20-milers but more about that later

The start is at Somerset village and in order to get there, we needed to take a water shuttle from the dock in Hamilton across the bay. Very convenient for us, since the ferry leaves next to our ship.

Here is an overview of the course

The weather in Bermuda is typical Carib weather: hot and very humid

I convinced a couple of colleagues to run and so we left the ship with 4 chicos and 1 chica

The race was great and I did ok; out of 800 runners I came in at # 38 at 1:40:38

The course ran past the ship and when I passed the vessel, they blew the horn 🙂

All the crew who participated actually finished and received their well-deserved medal

the week before the run, we also happened to be there….I ran a 30km or 19 miler on the other side of the island, also very nice to run, since you run through Hamilton and you pass the famous pink sandy beach
